TSI Compass International courses:

BE101
Bidding and Estimating for the Telecommunications Contractor
A comprehensive course providing the concepts for performing material and labor costing, competitive bidding of materials, and RFQ responses. This course also includes the preparation of a scope of work and the response to the client’s RFQ. The student will use a basic job estimating spreadsheet to create a costing and price a project. This spreadsheet software will be provided as a student handout from the course. Three (3) day course — BICSI CEU’s: RCDD - 21, RCDD/LAN - 21, Installer 2, Technician - 21, OSP – 21
Price - $895.00

OFCS101
OSP Optical Fiber Connectorization and Splicing
This four (4) day course is designed to acquaint the optical fiber technician with the methods and procedures required to terminate, splice, and test OSP optical fiber. The course is broken down into the following sections:

  • Safety utilizing both the NEC and the NESC Optical fiber theory.  The principals of internal reflection, refraction, angle of acceptance, attenuation, and dispersion.
  • Terminations - Methods and procedures for terminating the ST, SC, and LC anaerobic connectors.
  • Splicing - Methods and procedures for a mid-sheath splice requiring a mid tube entry.
  • Testing and Troubleshooting Testing of the optical fiber connectors using the interferometer to test each connector.
  • Testing of the passive link using the visual fault locator (VFL), the optical loss test set OLTS), and the optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR).
    BICSI CEU’s: RCDD - 28, RCDD/LAN- 28, Installer 2, Technician - 28, OSP - 28
    Price $1,250.00

    TPM101
    Telecommunications Project Management Workshop
This course includes the preparation of a project plan for medium to large telecommunications projects. The course prepares the student to successfully sit for the Telecommunications Project Management Associations certification examination as a Certified Project Manager. Students work in teams to write a Scope of Work, develop an Organizational Breakdown Structure (OBS), develop a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Pert/CPM, Gantt charts, Earned Value Cost Tracking, Quality Plan, Safety Plan, and conduct negotiations. This is a three (3) day course and uses Microsoft Project as a training tool. This IS NOT a course on Microsoft Project. BICSICEU’s: RCDD - 21, RCDD/LAN - 21, Installer 2, Technician - 21, OSP21
    $895.00
Workbook – The Essential Managers - Project Management by Andy Bruce and Ken Langdon

    CS101
    Outside Plant Copper Splicing
This course teaches students how to splice using either the 3M MS2 Copper Splicing Unit or the 700 Series Copper Splicing Unit. This will include installing underground/buried closures, above-ground closures/pedestals, and fire-retardant closures. Emphasis will be placed on splice arrangement, use of hardware with various splice cases, and splicing technology for a minimum of Category 3 performance and a maximum of Category 5 performance in outside plant. Three (3) day courses — includes all consumables — BICSI CEU’s: RCDD - 21, RCDD/LAN - 21, Installer 2, Technician - 21, OSP-21
    $975.00

    BG101
    Outside Plant Earthing and Bonding
This course is for the technician who needs additional guidelines for the proper bonding and earthing of underground, buried, and aerial plant systems. It covers the 2007 edition of the National Electrical Safety Code, the 2005 edition of the National Electrical Code, the BICSI Customer Owned Outside Plant Manual and ANSI/TIA/EIA 607 Grounding and Bonding for Commercial Buildings. This course has been adopted by many telecommunications companies for implementation of bonding and earthing in their physical plants. It includes testing of electrodes and the installation of bonding and earthing connections to physical plant.
Three (3) day course — includes all consumables
    $895.00

    NEC101
    National Electrical Code for Telecommunications
This course is designed for industry professionals, electrical inspectors, architects, consulting engineers, and telecommunications contractors who need to be aware of how the NEC affects design and installation of telecommunications. The course is based on the National Fire Protection Association's ANSI/NFPA 70 reference manual. This is a three-day course that uses the 2005 edition of the NEC as the course manual. BICSI CEU’s: RCDD - 21, RCDD/LAN - 21, Installer 2, Technician - 21, OSP-21
    $895.00

    NESC101
    National Electrical Safety Code
A course that offers industry professionals, electrical inspectors, architects, consulting engineers, and telecommunications contractors a head's up approach on how the NESC affects aerial, underground and direct-buried telecommunications outside plant design and installation. It is based on ANSI/IEEE C-2. This is a two-day course that uses the 2007 edition of the NESC as the course manual. BICSI CEU’s: RCDD - 14, RCDD/LAN - 0, Installer 2, Technician - 14, OSP - 14
